Numerous people gathered around Imam Ali (AS). A man came in mosque and
asked:"Ali, I have a question. Is Knowledge better or wealth better?"
Ali(AS) answered. The man kept silent. At that time another man entered at mosque and asked:" Abalhassan, I have a question, Is Knowledge better or wealth better?" Imam answered:" The Knowledge is better because Knowledge protects you but you should protect your wealth." The man was convinced and kept silent.

and asked the same question. Imam answered:" The Knowledge is better
because a scientist has many friends and a rich has many enemies."
Imam was still speaking that another man entered and sat near their friends and asked:" Is Knowledge better or wealth better?"
Imam Ali (AS) answered: " The Knowledge is better because when you donated your wealth it becomes less but when you donate your Knowledge and teach it to others it becomes increased."
It was the turn of fifth man. He waited and stood near a pillar. He repeated the same question. Imam answered: "
The knowledge is better because people see to wealthy man as miser but they see a scientist as honorable. When the sixth man came in all people looked at him. Someone said that he wants to know Is Knowledge better or wealth better?. Others laughed. The man asked loudly:" Ali Is Knowledge better or wealth better?" Imam looked at crowd and answered:" The knowledge is better because the wealth maybe would be stolen by thieve but there is no fear in stealing knowledge. The man kept silent.
There was a tumult in the crowd. Why all ask same question today. At the same time the seventh man asked " Is Knowledge better or wealth better?" Imam answered: " The knowledge is better because the wealth damaged after passing time but the knowledge never damaged.
The eighth man asked the same and Imam answered:" The knowledge is better because wealth just remain with his owner at this world but the knowledge remains at this world and another world with his owner."
The crowd kept silent and all were wondered by Imam's answers. The ninth man came in and asked:" Is Knowledge better or wealth better?"
Imam smiled:" The knowledge is better because wealth makes human hard-hearted but the knowledge makes human enlightened. The crowed were wondered.
A man came in with a child at sat at a corner, asked the same. Imam answered: " The knowledge is better because wealthy men are arrogant and some of them claimed they are God, but a scientist is always modest. The crowed became happy.
The askers went out quietly. When they quit the mosque they heard voice of Imam saying:" If all people around the world ask me this question, I'll answer differently."
FN: It is written at another source that some malevolent persons conspire with each other to ask this question from Imam. Because they wanted to get Imam angry to abuse this against of Imam.
But Imam Ali (AS) had divine knowledge and knew what they wanted to do. Up now nobody can say something against Imam's knowledge.
